So anyone who’s watched something like, say, RuPaul’s Drag Race may have noticed there’s a trend for a certain style of drag queen to draw their eyebrows almost identical to the ones sported by best Disney villain of all time, Ursula the Sea Witch.

Well, there’s a reason for that.

Sadly, Ursula’s real-world inspiration, Divine, passed away in 1988, a year before The Little Mermaid was released. Still, she’ll always be memorialised by every generation of girls who grow up learning the importance of body language.

(Other things I didn’t realise until reading this article: the guy who wrote the songs for The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast was also the guy who did Little Shop of Horrors. Huh. Also, Divine was the original Edna in Hairspray. Double huh.)
