Does the left hate free speech? Well, it does when y’all are using it as a stick to beat marginalized people with, kinda yeah.
One of the best and most accessible looks at the contradiction at the heart of free speech, i.e. the notion that some speech is inherently silencing to other speech and, ergo, there is no “neutral” position when defending it. Eventually, you’re always going to take a side over whose speech you think should be “free”.
(Also takes on Christopher Hitchens, who I admit I too have a bit of a lingering soft spot for, despite the fact that he was a raging bigoted asshole.)
