Why is it only “playing the gender card” when women do it? I mean, male politicians play on stereotypes of masculinity all the damn time, and a big part of that is playing on the femininity–or perceived lack thereof–of their opponents’ spouses. Y’know, like what’s happened to Hillary Clinton her entire life; having to constantly seem more “feminine” to further her husband’s career.1 And now suddenly it’s her turn, and now we get all the “gender card” quips.
Well fuck that.
- True story, my mother first went to the U.S. during Clinton’s second election campaign. She brought me back a bunch of memorabilia, including a button with the slogan “Re-elect Hillary’s husband!”. [↩]
