This is… weird. Apparently, The Times experimented with erecting a speaker that pumped out typewriter sounds into its newsroom. As quotes in the article point out, it’s hard to see how modern journalists would find this sound anything other than intensely annoying, given more and more of them are going to be too “young”–and I use the term loosely here–to remember a time when typewriters were actually A Thing.

(Then again, it is The Times we’re talking about here…)
