Lowest common denominator.

/Lowest common denominator.

[Mad Max: Fury Road] showed us what the lowest common denominator for an action movie should be. It does the job well without denigrating women or minorities.

It’s the difference between going to the movies knowing that you will be safely entertained and going there feeling that you are the entertainment—that you and people like you are things that exist only to feed the needs of others or to be mocked.

–Baldur Bjarnason dies historic.

This is something I’ve heard said about Fury Road from a number of different corners: basically that it shows just how bad most of our action movies have been for the past decade or so.

You don’t have to denigrate women to have a fun action film.

You don’t have to denigrate people of color to have a fun action film.

You don’t have to have a generic hero to have a fun action film.

You don’t have to show graphic sexual assault to have a fun action film.

I could go on, but you get the picture.
