A teenager hacked into the private email account of one John O. Brennan, a.k.a. the Director of the CIA. The fact that he was able to do so was not the fault of Brennan; instead, it was the fault of Verizon and AOL, who fell victim to social engineering by the attackers.

This sort of thing happens a lot. Like, a lot of a lot. And it’s going to keep happening, so long as companies aren’t held liable for damage does to users due to their own shitty helpdesk procedures. But fixing things would require, yanno. Legislation. And you know what the tech sector thinks about that…
