On why you can’t judge the healthfulness of food by whether or not it decays. And yes, this post is about all the Facebook hysteria over Twinkies and McDonald’s.

For the record: Yes, Twinkies do rot (fairly quickly, as it turns out). McDonald’s burgers don’t, but neither do any burgers. It’s variable on the conditions they’re kept in (too damp and they’ll grow mold like anything else), but essentially they just dry out like jerky. Which, incidentally, also doesn’t rot, which is the point of it, and why humans have been eating variations on it for thousands of years.
