So have you ever noticed how nearly all modern programming languages1 are in (American) English? Now imagine how that looks to someone to whom English isn’t a native language. Or just read this.

The one exception I can think of–asides from not-really-intended-for-mainstream-use esolangs like Brainfuck, Piet, Whitespace, etc.–is the code to industry-leading financial system, SAP, which is (was?) largely in German. Even that’s only in things like function and variable names, and the script it still Latin. Didn’t stop our devs from pissing and moaning about it at every opportunity, however.
