For the record, no, I did not take my husband’s name when we got married.

(On the other hand, I did steal it as a pseudonym to write under. So… go figure, I guess.)

    If I marry the boyfriend, I will absolutely, unashamedly, in a heartbeat take his last name. Why? I’ll switch from having a Hong Konger last name to a white one. Status difference. Because racism.

      Touché, and a good point. Part of the reason I use my husband’s name for writing is because my birth surname is both a) super-rare, and b) very Eastern European, and I’ve legit never met anyone who can pronounce it (even though it’s literally written phonetically).
