So after Husband found us a professional DM1 to run some games as a Fun Easter Quarantine Activity, I finally got to give the Drard a proper run! Now with 100% more naga thanks to the GM’s house rules for playable races!
Laqis is exactly as good-bad as predicted; massive utility for everything that doesn’t actually matter all that much and zero effectiveness in combat.2 But for solving all those random and non-combat encounters they’re batting like 100%. Mostly by casting combinations of speak with animals and goodberry. Thorn whip has also gotten a good run, mostly because, a) it’s great for dragging enemies into environmental hazards, and b) it triggers attacks of opportunity from the two melee players. Nice.
Also, the expression the DM makes when I say things like, “I only have 10 AC and 15 HP!” and “I cast unseen servant to build us a rope bridge to cross the rapids! It has no mass so it can totally walk across the water!” is totally worth being a one-hit-combat kill…
- One who, completely coincidentally, used to be in our vanilla World of Warcraft guild, Back In The Day. His sister, if I’m remembering correctly, even took over the guild when the rest of us had a rage quit somewhere in the transition between finishing uni and starting work. Adam still agreed to run games for us, even after all of that, so… whew. Tl;dr, the internet is a tiny place and, yes. You will randomly run into people you used to know like a decade and a half ago. This is like my third in three years, even! [↩]
- Well… I did get to drop onto a guy’s head from a ceiling as a giant spider and rip his face off, so that was pretty fun. Then immediately got clubbed to death saves by another guy. [↩]
