Books of the Wyrd
Sitting at the intersection of the magical and the mundane, the Books of the Wyrd are a queer Australian urban fantasy series about old gods and new tricks.
Liesmith, follows unassuming every-nerd Sigmund Sussman as he struggles through IT tech support and rogue Norse gods alike. The end of the world has come knocking, and Sigmund’s new boyfriend, the suspiciously ultra-hip Lain Laufeyjarson, is at the heart of it. Somehow, this is one problem turning it off and on again won’t seem to fix.
Stormbringer sees Sigmund and Lain return to Asgard to deal with the fallout from Ragnarok. While Odin’s grandchildren fight over who should claim rulership of the realm, Thor’s sons are on a quest to regain their father’s lost and legendary hammer. Em and Wayne, meanwhile, find themselves in Hel, literally, as the dishonored dead set out to march on Asgard, demanding sanctuary. Armies are marching, Loki is back (sort of), and all that stands in the way of total war are three nerds and a whole lotta classic rock.
Wyrdverse is a collection of short stories from the world of the Wyrd, including a series of stories set in the pre-Ragnarøkkr world of Loki and Sigyn.
It features nineteen essays by a variety of authors, including Alis Franklin, who contributed “Fat Chicks in SFF“.
